Samuel Hirt Family Tree

Samuel Hirt was born to a pioneer Riley couple, Casper and Verena Vogt Hirt. His parents settled in Riley Township after migrating from Stilli Switzerland. His father, Casper, went to the gold rush in California in 1849 and made several trips across the Atlantic and North American continent before settling in Riley Township

On April 15, 1884 Samuel married the former Sarah Ann Schoch of Riley Township. Sarah Ann died on December 29, 1923. On March 31, 1928 Samuel again married Mrs. Elizabeth Reed of Fremont, Ohio. The couple eventually moved to 307 Morrison Street where they made their residence.

Formerly, Samuel was an extensive landowner in Riley Township. He served as Sandusky County Auditor for two terms, from 1898 to 1904 and for many years had been active in many county and city groups. During his early manhood, he was a Riley Township schoolteacher. He served as president of the Sandusky County fair for many years. He was serving as treasurer of the Sandusky County Farmers Mutual Insurance company at the time of his death.

He was active in the Democratic Party and served on various committees. He was affliated with the Colonial Band from 1904 until 1920 as a director and officer. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a life member of the Elks Lodge and memeber of the Grace Lutheran Church
